Governor Seyi Makinde: The history maker per excellence By Morohunkola Thomas

 In the history of Oyo State, some events have been taking place which are of serious historical significance and which we as good citizens we must take cognisance of them.

It was the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi who created history in early 2016 when he organised the burial of one Olubadan, Oba Odulana Odugade and also organised the coronation ceremony of a new Olubadan, the late Oba Soliu Adetunji Aje Ogungunniso in a very colourful way. He was the first civilian Governor of Ibadan extraction to record such a feat and as expected he made a good show of this historical fact.

When Marxist scholars are criticised by bourgeois scholars that the communist revolution which Marxists espoused has remained a mirage, the reply Marxists always give is that *we have not seen the end of history*. That answer comes handy when evaluating the historical feat recorded by the late Governor some eight years ago. This is because contemporary historical events have shown that greater historical feats have been recorded in the past four years in Oyo state which have thrown Governor Seyi Makinde up as the greatest history maker in contemporary times.

Governor Seyi Makinde is the only Governor of Oyo state to have buried an Alafin of Oyo. In fact, he’s the first and only indigene of Oyo State serving as Governor that will bury an Alafin of Oyo in a grand way. And if it pleases God, he’s likely to be the first and only Governor of Oyo State extraction that will install a new Alafin of Oyo.

Governor Seyi Makinde also recorded another history when he became the first and only Governor of Oyo State to bury a departed Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade and at the same time instal a new Soun , Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

With regards to Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde is about to record double historical feats. In 2022, he gave the departed Olubadan, Oba Soliu Adetunji a befitting burial and now he has buried Oba Lekan Balogun in a colourful way while promising a grand final burial ceremony. He also installed Oba Lekan Balogun in 2022 and he’s making preparations for the installation of a new Olubadan. 

It is clear that when the history of modern Oyo State is to be written, Governor Seyi Makinde has secured several golden pages for himself. And this is just in the area of culture and tradition. He will also receive glowing and historically solid mention for the giant strides that he’s making in several aspects of governance especially in infrastructural development, the Road revolution, agricbusiness efforts, fantastic workers welfare, sports and youth development among others.
