A Response to Group Criticizing Engr, Akeem for Cautioning Overambitious Politicians in Oyo PDP

The recent condemnation of Akeem Olatunji by a certain group for cautioning party members or groups within the PDP in Oyo State is misguided and unfortunate. Akeem Olatunji’s stance was aimed at fostering party unity and ensuring that all members align with the vision and leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde. As the overall leader of the PDP in Oyo State, Governor Makinde’s choice of aspirants is crucial in maintaining the progress and stability that the party has achieved. Any attempt to undermine this leadership by showing sympathy for other aspirants without considering the governor’s input threatens the cohesion of the party.

It is surprising that this group has resorted to lamenting and attempting to blackmail Governor Makinde for inviting Shina Peller to the PDP and later not responding to his calls, ignoring the fact that Shina Peller’s defection to the PDP does not entitle him to an automatic ticket. The PDP is home to many brilliant minds and notable politicians, many of whom Shina Peller met in the party. It is unreasonable to expect Governor Seyi Makinde, as a father to all, to promise any particular aspirant an automatic ticket.

As the leader of the party and a father figure to all, the governor has consistently demonstrated fairness, inclusivity, and a commitment to the overall development of Oyo State. His decisions are not driven by personal ambitions but by the desire to ensure that the people of the state continue to benefit from the good governance and positive changes his administration has been delivering.

Accusations of Governor Makinde working against any particular aspirant are not only baseless but also a distraction from the real issues at hand. The governor’s focus is, and has always been, on the overall success of the party and the welfare of the people of Oyo State. It is counterproductive for any group to stir division by suggesting that the governor is motivated by anything other than the common good. The continued success of the PDP in Oyo State depends on unity and the recognition of Governor Makinde’s leadership.

Oyo State has witnessed tremendous progress under Governor Makinde’s administration, and this is a result of his steady hand and commitment to democracy. Diverting attention from these achievements to pursue personal ambitions can only harm the party’s chances in the future. Members who prioritize their interests over the collective good of the party are at risk of undermining the dividends of democracy that the people of Oyo State currently enjoy.

It is crucial for all party members to recognize the importance of unity under Governor Makinde's leadership. The governor's decisions are not about limiting anyone's aspirations but about ensuring that the PDP remains strong, cohesive, and focused on delivering for the people. We must condemn any attempt to fragment the party for personal gain and reaffirm our loyalty to the leadership that has brought so much progress to Oyo State.
